DHA recently unveiled a new lighting scheme for the re-opening of the Theatre and Performance Galleries at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

This marks a significant return for DHA, who originally lit these galleries in 2009 and were thrilled to be invited back.

Over the years, DHA have collaborated with the Theatre and Performance Dept on several landmark exhibitions at the V&A, including David Bowie Is…, Hollywood Costume, Kylie, and The Supremes. Their expertise has not only enhanced these exhibitions but also contributed to the museum’s immersive storytelling experience.

The Theatre and Performance Galleries boast a remarkable permanent collection, spanning from Shakespeare’s First Folio to Kylie Minogue’s Showgirl-tour dressing room and the Royal Box from Glasgow Theatre Royal. Recently, the collection expanded to include new acquisitions from popular BBC shows like His Dark Materials and Peaky Blinders, adding a contemporary touch to the museum’s offerings.

There were over 1,700 visitors to the newly opened galleries this past weekend, they were a huge hit and in no small part because of DHA – Ellen Doggett, V&A Project Coordinator

One of the highlights of DHA’s recent contributions is the lighting of the Enthoven Unboxed exhibition, commemorating the centenary of Gabrielle Enthoven’s generous donation to the V&A, which established the Theatre Department. This exhibition showcases the museum’s diverse collecting interests, featuring treasures such as Claire Foy’s wedding dress from The Crown, a detailed model of Stormzy’s iconic Glastonbury set, and even Elton John’s distinctive glasses.

The new high-tech lighting scheme unveiled by DHA not only illuminates artifacts but also brings to life the stories and emotions behind each piece, enriching the visitor experience at the Victoria and Albert Museum. As the museum continues to evolve and innovate, partnerships with industry leaders like DHA ensure that these cultural treasures captivate audiences for generations to come.
