Pompeii and Herculaneum opens at BM

DHA were delighted to see the fantastic reviews that have greeted the opening of this major exhibition, with 5-star reviews in the Guardian, Independent and The Daily Telegraph. Designed by Land, with whom DHA worked on the successful The Book of the Dead at the same venue, the exhibition recreates a Roman Villa to look at the life in these seaside towns before their destruction. The lighting works to replicate the interior and exterior spaces, whilst lighting the objects and graphics to good effect.

Continuing their relationship with the BM, Pompeii and Herculaneum is the sixth show that DHA have lit in the Round Reading Room. It is described by Jonathan Jones as “one of the most momentous archeological exhibitions ever staged”.

David Bowie Is…. open

DHA were delighted to be the lighting designers for the eagerly anticipated David Bowie Is… exhibition at the V&A. With our background in theatre and rock concert lighting, and our experience in galleries and museums, it was a great opportunity to showcase dynamic exhibition lighting. We worked closely with the museum, 59 Productions and Real Studios to bring the glamour and excitement of Bowie to the V&A.

The exhibition has already become the fastest-selling in the V&A’s history, described by the Evening Standard in its 5-star review as “a triumph” and tickets and further information can be found here

Treasures of the Royal Courts, V&A

DHA have recently completed the lighting for the beautiful Treasures of the Royal Courts exhibition at the V&A, subtitled Tudors, Stuarts and the Russian Tsars. With fabulous treasures loaned by the Kremlin, many of which have never been seen in the UK before, this amazing exhibition traces the trading history between England and Muscovy. It was designed by the in-house V&A 3D and graphic design teams.

Natural History Museum exhibition opens

DHA recently completed the lighting of Extinction: Not the End of the World at London’s Natural History Museum. The exhibition displays a fascinating range of specimens, models and graphics. Highlights include the skull of one of the last dinosaurs, and the head and antlers of an extinct Irish Elk (pictured).

More information about the exhibition can be found on the NHM’s website here

Light from the Middle East, V&A

DHA continued their relationship with the V&A and photography following their successful collaboration on the V&A’s new Photography Gallery 100 earlier this year. Designed and curated by the V&A’s excellent in-house team, the exhibition profiles the work of 30 contemporary photographers. The works all come from within the V&A and British Museums’ collections.

DHA worked to enhance the photographs with light, and create a welcoming gallery space, without detracting from the work. An audio slideshow (with Venetia Porter of the BM) of some of the most powerful images can be found on The Guardian website here
