Atmosphere Gallery – Science Museum, London

The first UK gallery to look at climate change in an exciting immersive environment.

Having lit the three-storey Wellcome Wing pre-2000, DHA returned to refurbish the top floor with a gallery devoted to the climate. With Casson Mann creating a beautiful overhead fabric sculpture inspired by isobars, DHA designed a custom pendant to side-light these in a blue glow. This was supplemented by picking out displays and graphics in a warm white light, one of the first all-LED low-energy schemes to suit the subject matter. This won the Public Buildings category in the prestigious 2012 Lighting Design Awards, described by the judges as a “great, dramatic, theatrical approach.”
