First World War Galleries – IWM London

Marking its 100th anniversary this moving exhibition tells the story of the Great War.

Working alongside Casson Mann, DHA designed an immersive and sympathetic lighting scheme to illuminate the 1600 objects. To represent fighting overseas DHA lit the perimeter of the gallery with a cool white uplight, giving a sense of a distant skyline in this dark, basement gallery, complemented by 4000K spotlighting to the objects. For the parallel narrative running around the inner core, and telling the struggles on the Home Front, DHA lit this with 3000K, more focused lighting for a domestic interior feel. The project won the prestigious Permanent Exhibition category at the 2015 Museum and Heritage Awards.
