World Cultures Gallery – Horniman Museum, London

Combining daylight and exhibition lighting to illuminate the Horniman Museum.

DHA worked with Rick Mather Architects to cut a ceiling fin into this dark Victorian gallery, introducing daylight without any direct sunlight penetrating to the objects below. This was supplemented with barrel vault lighting for evening events. They also worked with Ralph Appelbaum Associates on the exhibition design, illuminating this fascinating and rich collection of cultural objects from around the globe, displayed by continent. The result is a bright, welcoming, family-friendly gallery without damaging the conservation artefacts displayed.
