Jebel Buhais Geology Park, UAE
The lighting of a mountain rising up from a spectacular desert landscape.
Working alongside Hopkins Architects, DHA provided the exterior lighting to the rocky mountain range known as the Jebel Buhais, as a backdrop to the new Geology Park, just 50km from Sharjah in UAE. Our lighting scheme reveals the spectacular geology of the Jebel, isolated in the Marwan desert. LED floodlights were concealed on the roof of the visitor centre, so visitors would be unaware of the source of the light. The lighting is tightly controlled to the Jebel to minimise spill light, projecting over 300m, and prevents any unwanted and intrusive sky glow. The illumination was carefully designed so that the Jebel could be seen from the highway, as well as in the visitor centre itself, making the Jebel a key feature in the area. The lighting is strictly controlled to be used only when necessary.
